How to Support Women Running in the Upcoming Federal Election

March 29, 2025 Amanda Kingsley Malo

The federal election is on the horizon, and as we gear up for what’s sure to be a pivotal moment in Canadian politics, one thing is clear: we need more women on the ballot—and in office. Supporting women in politics isn’t just about representation; it’s about bringing diverse perspectives and experiences to decision-making tables where they’ve historically been underrepresented. So, how can you help? Here are a few impactful ways to support women running for office in the upcoming election:

Donate to Their Campaigns

Running for office isn’t cheap. From campaign literature to travel costs, candidates need financial support to reach voters effectively. If you’re able, consider donating to women candidates you believe in. Even small contributions can make a difference.

Volunteer Your Time

Campaigns are fueled by volunteers. Whether it’s knocking on doors, making phone calls, or managing social media, there’s a role for everyone. If you have a few hours to spare, sign up to help a woman candidate in your riding.

Use Your Voice

Talk about the women running in your community. Share their platforms on social media, engage in conversations with friends and family, and help amplify their messages. Visibility matters, and your advocacy can help build momentum.

Challenge Misinformation and Bias

Women in politics still face an uphill battle against sexism, bias, and misinformation. When you see unfair attacks or misleading claims, speak up. Hold media and public discourse accountable for treating women candidates fairly.

Encourage Women in Your Network to Run

Politics needs more women, and that includes future candidates. If you know a woman who would make a great leader, encourage her to consider running. Let her know she’s capable, and connect her with organizations (like PoliticsNOW!) that can provide support. And if we can’t provide you with the tools, there’s a whole bunch of organizations that we’ve highlighted that will on our free resource page.

Supporting women in politics isn’t just about the candidates—it’s about building a stronger, more inclusive democracy. The upcoming election is an opportunity to show up, speak out, and take action. Let’s make sure women’s voices are heard and represented in the halls of power.

TL;DR

Women belong in politics. Want to help? Open your wallet, roll up your sleeves, and use your voice. Donate, volunteer, talk them up, shut down the haters, and encourage the next wave of badass women to run. Let’s make politics look a little more like the people it represents.
