Why are you running for this position?
I am running for council because I am ready for deeper conversations. I have been advocating as an extension of my professional services. I want to make sure that individual and community needs are being met. Quality of life is my priority. I will insist on accountability and challenge fiscal responsibility. I am a true Independent voice for my Ward 11.
What do you love most about your community?
I love that my community offers a family friendly lifestyle. People enjoy our beautiful outdoor spaces from local parks and also can attend many events. I have a very caring helpful community powered by people willing to step up when needed.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing your municipality right now?
When I talk with people in my community people are aware that infrastructure has been challenging but more people are concerned about the addictions and homelessness. I will be advocating for a treatment center with support and appropriate housing. At the same time we need to build housing people can afford
If elected, what is one thing you would like to accomplish during your term?
I would like to not only see every citizen with a safe place to call their home but also creating ways to have a fund so this will no longer be a financial challenge for my community. This would be a strong foundation for a better quality of life.
What is one thing you would like to see your municipality do differently?
I would like my municipality to have strong transparency practices including a brief attached to all decisions voted by city council. I believe that this will build a stronger relationship between the city and members of the community.
What does good local government look like to you?
Total transparency accountability and fiscal responsibility. People want to see a clear vision for infrastructure and want their voice heard and sometimes that might be a vote. All wards want to feel just as important as the downtown and quality of services throughout the municipality. Tourism should be extended to every corner of the district.
If you received a $1 million grant to use for your municipality any way you wanted, what would you do with it?
I would start a self funding small house community that would replenish the $1 million and so on. That would also free up funds towards other projects.
What is something about you that you would like voters to know that they might not learn from your campaign platform?
I participated in the future of sports in canada inquiry. It was identified by coaches and athletes that Vulnerable Sector checks were vital but there was barriers Provincially and Federally. I approached the Rainbow Board and now we have implemented mandatory vulnerable Sector checks in those schools. I will always prioritize the safety of our community.
