Christel Brandle
Christel Brandle is running for Council in Ward 2 in Greater Sudbury.
Christel Brandle (she/her) has been a member of the Greater Sudbury community for 25 years. She has spent decades volunteering in the community and, for the past 15 years, has been the superintendent/assistant superintendent of Lively Apartments, a nine-storey, 132-unit apartment building. Her work has included dealing with aging infrastructure and ensuring upgrade projects were planned, overseen, and carried through within budget.
Why are you running for this position?
I did not agree with the appointment to an elected position after the tragic death of our elected councillor.
What do you love most about your community?
Our resiliency and self reliance.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing your municipality right now?
Infrastructure. Amalgamation neglected the outer areas of the municipality. When now dealing with water, sewer, and roads that have not been upkeep for 25 years.
If elected, what is one thing you would like to accomplish during your term?
Whatever I can. I'm going to be inheriting a large pile. Until I am able to see exactly what we are working with... I will not make any promises I can't keep.
What is one thing you would like to see your municipality do differently?
Transparency.
What does good local government look like to you?
The voice of the people is reflected by their elected officials votes in council.
If you received a $1 million grant to use for your municipality any way you wanted, what would you do with it?
That's not up to me. That's up to what the majority of the ward wants.
How do you approach working with people who disagree with you?
Just because people disagree doesn't mean you can't come to a compromise.
What does having more women in local leadership change?
Representation. All people should have representation in government.
What is something about you that you would like voters to know that they might not learn from your campaign platform?
If something is important to the constants I will make sure that I fight for it tooth and nail. Sometimes the best is when your voice is the loudest.
