Our Campaigns

Have you ever wanted to run for municipal office, but had no idea on how to get started? Or maybe you've always wanted to get involved in a political campaign, but didn't know the first thing about it? Here's your chance to learn!

The program is aimed to support women who are interested in running for municipal office. PoliticsNOW encourages all women, including Indigenous women, women of colour and members of the LGTBQ2S community to join us. With the election a little less than a year away, it’s the perfect time to learn a little bit more about what it takes to run a campaign. Our campaign bootcamp is designed to meet the needs of women in Northern Ontario and will concentrate primarily on answers the needs of those living in our region. We not only encourage potential candidates, but also potential volunteers who are interested in supporting women in politics and their political campaigns.

Are you interested in hosting a campaign bootcamp in your town? Get in touch with us and let’s make it happen.

During the 2018 Municipal Election writ period, we hosted online webinars in an effort to ensure that we reached every single woman who was running and every single volunteer who was working on a female-led campaign. It was our way to ensure that everyone who wanted to learn how to run a successful campaign had the ability to join us. We hosted 4 webinars on a variety of topics.

Thanks to the generosity of Women’s March Canada, you can still view those webinars online for free. We dive into topics such as how to successfully craft your story and share it with your constituents, how to fundraise, how to develop and follow through with a canvassing strategy and finally, how to create an effective social media strategy during the campaign period. Check them out and use them with wild abandon.

Standing for Engage Northern Ontario Women, our very first campaign was dedicated to finding people who support women in politics.

We're committed to ensuring that we tackle the uniqueness of northern Ontario so that the women that want to run for a political position in their community feel supported. We know that if we come together and combine our talents and passion, we'll be able to elect more women to our city councils than ever before.

How can you help? Talk to everyone you know and see if they would be interested in helping us with an event. Maybe you know a very inspiring woman who would make a great candidate - give her our information so that we can set her up for success. Maybe you've been thinking about volunteering for the cause - join us and start helping us setup the tools to ensure that women will be successful. Politics not your thing? Pass us along to someone who might want to join; write letters to your city council asking what they're willing to do to help women run; come to a city council meeting with us. We want to encourage more civically minded men and women, and you're just the person for the job. Join us!

Northern Ontario is full of women that ran for various municipal positions during this election. We followed 26 women that we connected with at various points once the campaign started. Some followed along with our bootcamps, while others filled out our survey, or spent their August Thursday's with us in webinars and hung out with us in Instagram stories; some have even become great e-mail pals for campaign advice on the fly. We watched their campaigns; we supported them however much we could in whatever way we could; we became deeply invested in their success. No matter the result that they received on after the election, we remain in awe of these women. It takes guts to put yourself out there and run for council, and these women have it in spades. No matter where their journey leads them next, whether that is to council or elsewhere, we're going to be following along. They're going to change our cities.

Thank you for allowing us to join you on this wild ride. Let’s do it all over again in 2022.

During the lead-up to the 2018 municipal election, we attended city council meetings as a group.

Every two months, we picked a city council meeting and committed to attending together. This is the perfect opportunity for us to get together and talk about politics, things going on in the city and make vital connections as we move forward. It also gives participants the opportunity to attend live council meetings so that they can see the dynamics of council. At the very least, it feels great to be committed to be civically engaged.

Want to bring these to your hometown? Contact us and we'll help make it happen. We'll help set up the event, give you graphics and get your advertising going - all you have to do is show up!

We’re giving the microphone to the inspiring women in our community. PoliticsNOW hosts a speaker series that features women who are community leaders and change-makers.

Our communities have so many inspiring women within them. This is a unique opportunity for us to come together and listen to them tell their stories and be inspired by their courage, their successes and their tenacity.

The event is free. All are welcome. Want to attend one? Look at our events page to see when our next one is.
